Young Man Invites 89-Year-Old Neighbor To His House To Keep Her Company In Her Last Days

It’s truly incredible how the least expected pairs come together at the most unexpected times, creating bonds and making memories that last a lifetime. Also, we often underestimate our impact on other people. However, we should always remember that even the tiniest act of kindness can mean the world to someone. Such a beautiful incident happed between Chris Salvatore, a 26-year-old from West Hollywood, and Norma Cook, Salvatore’s 84-year-old neighbor. When Salvatore first moved into West Hollywood, he never imagined that his elderly neighbor would be his best friend. After a brief greeting, Salvatore offered to initiate their friendship by getting to know each other, and that’s how they became best buddies.

Cook lived alone with Hermes, her cat, and the duo soon bonded over shared interests and neighborhood gossip. Their friendship of five years carries so many unforgettable moments and special memories. From fun dinners to lunches in the city, parties, holidays, and countless laughs, their friendship soon developed to the point of family. Cook considered Salvatore as the ‘grandson she never had, and Salvatore also treated her like his own grandmother. Therefore, when Cook’s health worsened at 89, Salvatore decided to care for her. Cook had been a leukemia patient for years, and by the end of 2016, her condition was extremely bad. She battled breathing issues and pneumonia for two months in a hospital. When doctors decided that she needed 24-hour care of someone, he invited Cook to move in with him. He even started a GoFundMe in order to cover her medical expenses, which raised over $50,000.

After Cook moved in with him, Salvatore took great care of her till she passed away in February 2017. He was immensely heartbroken by her death, and their special bond has stuck with him for years. He states that she helped him become a better person, and he’s forever grateful for everything she has taught him. Salvatore and Cook’s precious bond is proof that kindness can really be a lifesaver.
