When you’re surrounded by darkness, you can barely see anything. It’s so scary that you can’t even make out your own shape. To make things worse, if you are alone, you will even start hearing weird sounds because of intense fear. So, imagine such a situation with nothing but water to keep you sane. This nightmare was the reality of this 13-year-old dog named Abby.
This poodle was out exploring unknown surroundings on June 9th, when this unfortunate incident happened. While wandering, Abby got lost. Then, it got caught in rushing water and got swept away deep into a cave.

This incident is extremely tragic. However, Abby is incredibly lucky because she survived even after 2 months in complete darkness. The poodle was discovered by a group of cavers who were inspecting the underground tunnel system on August 8th. This team was headed by Gerry Keene and Rick Haley who are well-experienced cavers. They explored around 500 feet below the surface. As in a miracle, the poor pup was rescued.

Jeff Bohnert, the poor poodle’s owner, has already lost hope about seeing his beloved pet again. But life is full of surprises. The initial plan of the cavers was to enter the cave from the Berome Moore and emerge at the Tom Moore entrance.

However, they immediately changed after seeing the poor dog. Rick told the Daily Mail that Abby survived solely on water and that she has not eaten anything for a long time. Also, he explained to NPR that the temperature below the cave is around 58 degrees.
Abby’s owner Jeff was truly surprised to see her alive. Before returning home, Abby was taken to a vet for a checkup and for treatment. We wish this brave warrior a speedy recovery!
