Maria Cassano saw a stray cat trying to cross her father’s backyard while holding a kitten, several years ago. She was very worried about how the mama cat would look after the kitten, so she wanted to care for them. However, Maria’s father did not like the idea, but she somehow convinced him and raised the mama cat well. The baby kitten was later adopted by their neighbor, and the Cassano family kept feeding the neighborhood stray cats.

During the winter, the Cassano family felt worried that the harsh weather conditions might affect the stray felines. This is where Steve, Maria’s dad, came to save the day! He isn’t the biggest animal lover in the house, but he still did what needs to be done to ensure the safety of the stray felines. He came up with a wonderful idea to build a cat house on the base of their backyard.

Mama Cat Looking For A Shelter For Her Newborn Kitten

This is not your ordinary cat house. In fact, it is built out of waterproof materials. Also, the cat house is heated so that the felines won’t suffer from extreme weather conditions.

When the mama cat had a second kitten, Maria’s dad installed a camera inside the cat house, in order to ensure their safety. He wanted to keep a keen eye on the kittens and to make sure that they made it home safe every night. Thanks to the camera, the Cassano family could capture some adorable pictures of the stray cats, comfortably dozing off in their warm little house.

Maria got the felines checked by a vet. She was assured that the mama cat is strong enough to survive the winter. However, the little kittens were too young to handle the cold. After being under Maria’s care for some time, the kittens were adopted.

The warm, cozy, and comfortable cat house became popular among other stray cats too. The stray cats are quite independent, but the family is delighted to create a cozy home for the felines.

Stray Cats Spending Time In The Family’s Backyard

In addition to the first cat house made by Steve, they now have a ‘cat igloo’, consisting of some more cat houses. Thanks to these, none of the felines are left in the cold. The Cassanos jokingly call this group of cat houses; ‘Steve’s condos’.

The internet overflowed with admiration for the Cassano family. After learning the story, many people came forward to share their own experiences, and lots of users were encouraged to care for stray animals during the harsh weather.
