Andrew Newey is a documentary travel photographer. Recently, he went to explore Nepal with the purpose of documenting the art of honey hunting that prevailed in Nepal since ancient days. In order to complete this task, Andrew spent two weeks with Gurung tribespeople. He skillfully photographs both the skills and the risks that are associated with this tradition. Be it in person or from images, not many outsiders have been exposed to this tradition before.
To fetch honey, honey hunters perch on rope ladders that can be dangerous, risking their lives to collect the honey. To knock off the honeycomb into baskets from the Himalayan cliffside, they utilize a lengthy stick called tangos. At last, the honeycomb-filled baskets are lowered to the ground.

Unfortunately, at the present, this ancient tradition is threatened due to various factors. One reason is the rapid reduction of honeybees due to climate change. Another reason is the decreasing amount of honey hunters, as most young people dislike learning the craft. Himalayan honey is well-reputed for its medicinal values. Therefore, the government has given honey-harvesting opportunities to contractors instead of tribespeople.
