We don’t know when wild animals will run into unexpected dangers, be they natural or man-made. However, as humans, it’s our responsibility to do what we can to save those innocent lives. This epic rescue of an elephant and her baby took place in the Khao Yai National Park, central Nakhon Nayok province, Thailand.

The successful rescue was the result of a joint effort by veterinarians and park staff. To carry out the mission, a boom lift, a digger, and resuscitation were used. Also, the elephants were rescued amidst heavy rain.
On Wednesday, in a terribly unfortunate turn of events, a one-year-old baby elephant fell into a drainage hole. The mother didn’t isolate her calf even for a second, standing guard over it. However, she was soon distressed and fell in after being sedated.
Using a truck-mounted boom lift, the rescuers managed to pull the mother elephant up. After that, they performed simultaneous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her. For this, they had to climb on top of her. Meanwhile, using the digger, the rescuers made way for the anxious calf to climb up, out of the drainage hole.
After climbing out, the little calf began suckling its mother. Fortunately, the mother soon regained consciousness, and both returned to the wild safely.
As claimed by Dr, Chananya Kanchanasarak, approaching the baby while the mother was close by was impossible. Therefore, three doses of tranquilizers were given to her. However, right before passing out and hitting her head, she reached toward her baby. This perfectly shows the unconditional love that the mother elephant has for her baby.
The operation lasted for over three hours. It was undoubtedly one of the most memorable rescues done by the team. So, check out the video above and share your thoughts with us in the comments.
